DESCRIPTION: Upto 35mm in length. When young this larva resembles a bird dropping but it soon becomes strikingly black with a series of bright yellow bands along the dorsal surface that give rise to black paddle-like outgrowths. The head is black and shiny head. FOODPLANT: Alder, birch, oak, hawthorn and goat willow. SEASON: May to June. |
